This is the official date that VS2008 will be released. There will be lots of events put together and possibly free copies of the software distributed and lots of marketing taking place. This is the launch date of the product and should not be confused with the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) date which most developers (particularly those with MSDN licenses) are interested in.

The fact that nobody actually commits means they have a little wiggle room, but I'd imagine since they most likely have a pretty complex process to get something like Visual Studio to press, if it's going out this month it's probably sitting in full form all over the place internally right now or they wouldn't be able to move on it any time soon.

Technologically speaking, nothing prevents this from happening. In practice, though, I wouldn’t bet on it. But I see a lot of interaction taking place between Silverlight and ASP.NET AJAX applications.

Been running VS2008 on Vista business for a about 3 months without any problems, until recently, Lately when creating a windows forms project via File|New|Project, I get the DEP bubble indicating that VS2008 has been shutdown.
